Just like its name, the Eastern Gray Squirrel is gray, but can also have a brownish-reddish hue to its fur. It has an enormous bushy tail and has a white belly with white paws.

The Eastern Gray Squirrel lives in mature forested areas. They usually make their drey (nest) in holes in tree trunks, but will use an old bird’s nest if a hole cannot be found. The dreys of these squirrels are lined with soft materials such as moss, grasses, feathers and various herbs and plants. This makes their homes remarkably insulated from the harsh winters and ice storms of the Midwest. While squirrels prefer to live in wooded areas, they are prevalent in backyards and Montgomery snake removal in parks and sometimes take up residence in tree branches, attics, and in exterior walls of houses.

Eastern Gray Squirrels are usually considered herbivores but Montgomery rat control will resort to eating insects, rodents, frogs, and small birds when food sources are scarce. For Eastern Gray Squirrels that live in the city, they will often raid bird feeders and feed off of garden vegetables if they can. A squirrel’s vocalization will include chattering and squeaking and it uses body language with posturing (puffing up the fur) and flicking its bushy tail.
